Joe and I are already hard at work preparing 64 songs for “Season 2”, a.k.a. Side B(1986-1989).
So, on Side A(1980-1985), we are not allowing any one artist to have more than one song in the bracket.
On Side B(1986-1989), we will not allow any one artist to have more than one song in that bracket.
The question we have for our audience is this, though: Should an artist who had a song on Side A be allowed to have a song on Side B? Or should there be no duplicate artists allowed for the entire decade, in the spirit of giving more artists a chance? We are split in our opinions on this matter. So we need our listeners to break the tie!
Thanks!
Keith (& Joe)
You two are doing a great job. I love listening to each episode. I get it that you are sensitive about repeat artists or you would have Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, Bruce Springsteen and Whitney Houston taking up damn near a majority of the spots. But, I’d rather consider a great song by a repeat artist over an average song by an artist who qualified to enter the list just because they haven’t been represented yet. Again, I get it, 80’s are ruled by one hit wonders and that’s a part of the reason the decade was great but allowing an artist to repeat might make your audience’s choices a bit more difficult, and fun for that matter. Keep up the great work!
Consider Your Goals: If the goal is to promote diversity and discover new artists, limiting votes per artist can be beneficial. However, if the goal is to accurately reflect the preferences of the audience, this approach might not be ideal.
