These songs are so evenly matched and in the same wheelhouse. I haven't had a chance to listen to the podcast yet - does Obession get points for also being the theme song to WWF Saturday Night Main Event on NBC? It was a series of live specials that aired instead of SNL reruns in the mid-80s Hulkamania heyday.

Also, note, this didn't come out in my initial comment, but this factoid made me laugh my ass off 😂 --It just adds to the 80s legend of Animotion!

That is not something that we pointed out i the 'cast, but we definitely appreciate it being added to the greater conversation--it might be the tipping factor for someone's decision! Thanks for listening, Sean!!

Another excellent and close matchup! My vote is going to "Don't You Want Me" because it's darker and closer my machine-synth heart, and they did it first. >TOIoioioiod< "Don't You Want Me" was the first music video I ever saw.

This was the toughest call for me yet! Also, I believe during the recording of this episode, I had watched too many new-to-me videos so recently, that I mis-described this video as the kinda boring "Hold Me Now" video. 😔

But YOU know about the video shoot and all the stuff that actually happened in this vid.

Man these are both hella 80s! I've gone with Obsession, I think 'Don't you want me' is almost slick or advanced enough to be early 90s, when that tremolo dance synth sound was also popular.

Excellent insights from a man who has done more than his share of DJing. Ahead of their time!

Haha, thanks, I've been more of a 'selecta' down the years.

The origins of the term DJ is from Jamaican patois - to be a 'disc jockey' was to ride the record with your voice, so originally it had the same connotations as what we now call an MC. Not sure when it slipped over to mean the person spinning the discs into each other.

Another tough match-up! Honestly either of these two could advance. In the end, I had to go with Obsession. I remember listening as a stupid teen boy and thinking that every time Astrid sang "butterfly" she was actually saying "butt-fly". This memory was *just* enough to give Obsession the edge :).

That is officially the most ridiculous misheard lyric so far!! Thanks for voting--this is a close one!

This was the hardest matchup so far for me. As pointed out in the podcast, these two songs are so similar. I kept flipping back and forth as to which one I was going to vote for. In the end, I went with Obsession, with that absurd video pushing it over the top. (Completely unrelated: loved the Cusack "Say Anything" lines at the end of this podcast!)
