Closer than I wanted to admit, but I give the Go-Go's my vote because I think they inspired and shaped '80s music. Night Ranger was a perfectly fine band, but I don't feel like up-and-comers were like, "We're gonna be the next Night Ranger!" (Aside: Jenn & I saw Night Ranger perform for free at the Pro Football HOF Ribs Burnoff in the early 2000s, and not only did they do a full set of songs that made a bunch of us say "Hey, I forgot about that one!", they put on a way better show than a band 20 years past their prime had a right to.

I have to hand it to them, they put on a good show back in the day!

"[Nobody wants to be the next Night Ranger]" is hilariously true! 😝

We Got the Beat all the way. It's a defining track of the 80s, Sister Christian is largely forgotten Butt rock song until someone brings it up and you're like, oh yeah that song was a thing. Sister Christian was trying very hard to not let the 70s end.

Though I always used the term "Butt Rock" to apply to 90s bands like Creed and Nickelback, I can see where you're coming from here, and I'll allow it! 😁 It's hard to separate out what you would actually like if you were not exposed to it as a kid, isn't it? I keep having that same feeling with a lot of these songs...I don't really like it, but I also often won't skip it. Weird, right?

Curious about the Sister Christian add - especially over other early 80s pop/rock hits like Come on Eileen or Walking on Sunshine.... Go-Gos for the 🏆

Not necessarily chosen over them! Remember, there are still 2 regions you haven't seen!! 😁

I feel like the Go-Go' s "We Got the Beat" is the epitomy of 80's music. This anthem definitely has my vote for crossing over (also I'm a big Belinda Carlisle fan)

This is an interesting match-up. I have trouble with it because in my opinion, Sister Christian is in a completely different class (80's Rock). But then again, rules are meant to be broken, and I am happy that at least one rock song made it in the bracket so far. I had to "go" with the Go-Gos in the end, though Sister Christian is more my style. "We Got the Beat", at least for me, seems as though it is more a product of the time, and it even influenced others that came after (Bangles).

While it may be true that Sister Christian could only have been born in the 80s, it certainly seems to have more staying power (I hear it on WONE all the time). I hardly ever hear anything by the Go-Gos these days.

This was a weird one to judge, for sure. I feel like this will come down to one or two votes!
