I would probably have voted for Total Eclipse of the Heart no matter what (it had staying power and was definitely a go-to slow song at my school dances a decade later), but the 'toids really sealed it for me here. Is there anything more 80's than a vampire love song written by the dude who gave us the melodrama of Meat Loaf? I think not.
I hate myself right now. I like Total Eclipse of the Heart soooooo much more than Bette Davis Eyes, and neither one of these sounds all that 80s to me; but I voted for Bette Davis Eyes because I reluctantly agree with the comments that Total Eclipse as a song outlived the 80s. That was enough to make me feel like I had to vote for Bette Davis Eyes as the more 80s of these two.
No strong feeling either way about this one. Went with Bette Davis Eyes because I remember that song just being ubiquitous the summer I turned 11. Total Eclipse was popular but I don't think it saturated the culture the way Bette Davis Eyes did. Despite my love of Jim Steinman, it ain't all that. And pretty much all of us GenXers learned who Bette Davis was from that song.
Total Eclipse has been remade more times than I want to recall. The most successful was in the mid-90s with Nicki French (maybe a top 10 - it had a lot of airplay). So, the song, without your 80s production 'requirements' and because it did via other artists transcend decades, gotta go for the slightly synth-ish Betty Davis Eyes. The dramatic moody songs, while a subset of the 80s, will be overpowered by the pop Brits you have in the bracket.
This is a tough one! Both Kim and Bonnie are 80s divas. I'll go with Kim because her song was more popular in Argentina's radio stations, and it still has a heavy rotation on adult contemporary! Bonnie's video is cooler, though.
Kim Carnes can't be the underdog. After all, we're almost sisters because our last names are almost the same!
That's one way to make the decision, I suppose! 😂

Bette Davis eyes. Many reasons, but mostly because just today I thought "New York snow" has to be a cocaine reference and That's So '80s.
😂 I think of like "Miami snow" as being more cocaine, but either way, cocaine was like the un-official sponsor of much of our 80s entertainment!

I feel bad for you. Hasta la vista, "Total Eclipse"! I think your vote puts a stake in Bonnie's heart!

The groundswell of support for "Bette Davis Eyes" is impressive. If form holds, your brother will jump on to nullify your vote! 😂

This could very well be an upset!
