Careful not to refer to Ireland as part of the UK, it definitely is not. The whole British identity thing is very complicated, I think most people probably consider themselves Welsh, Scottish, English before British (apart from Rangers fans 🥴😆), as it's more of a political construction.
Apologies! We are, after all, dumb Americans. 😂 I have been attempting to say the specific countries everyone is from specifically because I don't fully understand the whole British identity thing! Going forward, I will do better, maybe! 😂
I strongly believe that Annie and Dave will not only win this bracket, but they are also strong contenders to win the whole thing! My vote goes for "Sweet Dreams (are made of this)", and I also think that poor Boy George deserved better!
Oh, man, you just reminded me of how tough the later rounds are going to be! Poor Culture Club may get steamrolled here, but somebody had to take on this beast of a song! --Keith
Ok youngsters, a few 'toids about the song Handy Man. That song was covered by two people, Del Shannon (which I did NOT know until today) and American singer-songwriter, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, and SIX-TIME Grammy Award winner, THE Mr. James Vernon Taylor, whose cover of the song made it to #4 on the Billboard Top 100 AND #1 on the Adult Contemporary charts in 1977.
No inference should be made that I believe that James Taylor is obviously one of the best musical artists of all time, full stop.
This is a great way to differentiate this matchup. "Karma Chameleon" has something, even though I don't love it, and I think you have articulated what it is. --Keith

Thanks for the TOIDs! The real question is: do you think Culture Club STOLE this song for "Karma Chameleon"?
--Keith
Sweet dreams is dripping in 80ness, Karma is a cleaner pop song, and could be from another decade.

I am SUPER late to the party but I'm a Boy George fan. Karma Chameleon is my winner !
That IS late, but take heart in that you could have softened Culture Club's loss by like 1-2%!
--Keith
Oh, I really like both of these songs, but definitely feel "Sweet Dreams" is by far the eightier.
"Sweet Dreams" is a juggernaut in this tournament! --K
Today I Learned: James Taylor's Handyman is cover. Big hit in our house growing up. (And never thought it sounded similar to Karma Chameleon.)
most definitely!
All good dude 🙏💗 It is quite complicated.
Appreciate your compassion, my bro! Perhaps we can discuss it over dinner when I get to Spain! --Keith
No way!
Her voice is so powerful!
Thanks for being part of the show, Dr. Janet! You made a strong case! --Keith
