Since "Back to the future" is the quintessential American movie of the 80's and "Miami Vice" is one of the coolest TV shows of that era, my vote goes to Huey Lewis and to the amazing Sir Phil Collins. On a side note, the infamous hidden B side playlist is selling like warm cookies in the black market!
Unpopular take: "In the Air Tonight" was groundbreaking and is basically immortal - and deservedly so - but it was written so early in the decade that I don't think it really boils over with '80s-ness, especially when it's going up against Axel F.
