Had Cyndi made this semi-final this may actually be a contest, two of the great 80s anthems going head to head. Wouldn't have changed my vote because Modern English has been my choice to go all the way since the list was revealed.
I think I Melt With You is the ultimate 80s song as it was part of the culture for almost the entire decade because of its slow burn of popularity rather than becoming a big hit upon release. I think it's as likely to hear that song at a college or high school party in 1988 as it was in 1983. It just spanned the whole decade.
I've never heard of these two songs before this podcast, and I totally get why they come this far into the tournament. I'll go with the one that Iike the most, which is "Melt with you", mostly because it has these strong The Cure vibes! Also, have you considered INXS for side B? Keith, have a great vacation!
INXS has "legend" written all over it! It's one of my all-time favourite bands! And thank you guys for this podcast, I usually listen to it on my way to work and comment as soon as I get to the ofice, so it´s a fun way to start the working day!

They went into the 90s as well, and had many, many hits, perhaps they should be in consideration for Legend status? 🤔
"I Melt with You" is such a great song, I just felt "Sunglasses" was SO 80s, I had to go with it, even though it's not as good.
