Hands down Man in Motion. No contest. It is classic 80's. Don't get me wrong... Survivor in general also exemplified the best the 80s had to offer, but Eye of the Tiger has been overused to the point that it outgrew its 80s roots.
I voted St. Elmo's, though John Parr nearly broke his own back from patting it so much, trying to convince us he's so very clever and too much of an aesthete to have watched such a low-brow film before writing a song for it (yet presumably cashing the check). "Naughty Naughty," anyone?
Factoid: John Parr is from like literal Sherwood fucking Forest.
You can't actually ever like that movie if you don't see it the first time between the ages of 15 and 19. I did, so I love it. But yeah, the men it that movie are all asses. But Andrew McCarthy does great smoking.
"Man in Motion" is by far the 80s-er of these two, for all the reasons you outlined. As far as "St. Elmo's Fire" goes, it was in a weird space, because I was only 16 or 17 when I saw it, and I was probably expecting a little more R-rated fun hijinks - because hey, if high schoolers can throw a "Sixteen Candles" party, just *imagine* what college kids can get up to!
As my teenager would say, Bruh…this is a tough one for me. I’m going with St. Elmo’s Fire since I’ve seen the movie like 500 times. Keep rocking boys #i❤️the80’s
Wait….you’ve not watched it?!?! It’s like a cult classic like The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles. It’s one of my favs and I think you should give it another chance.
I watched it way back when and I think I wanted it to be funny, and I don't think it's a funny film, right? Maybe I should give it another chance, since we are revisiting so many 80s things. How do you feel about Pretty In Pink?
In my opinion absolutely not a funny movie. It’s more “coming of age” after college graduation and how tough it can be. Pretty in Pink, I mean tug at my heart. Another 80’s cult classic favorite ❤️
OK, so I re-watched it. It's still not going to be my favorite movie of that era, but I understand it more than I did when I first saw it. I would say it's true to life in that the male characters for the most part are awful to the female characters, and the ladies just kind of put up with it. Such realism! 😂
The singer who just needed a pair of wheels was just predicting the Segway… and even though I could not tell you what Elmo’s fire sounds like-because it’s barely lodged itself in my brain—that one’s the winner
John Parr is quickly wheeling away from Survivor on this one. We have some difficult decisions coming up next week--thanks for joining us on this trip!
I'm not going to add anything to the music discussion (Eye of the Tiger is a total anthem but St. Elmo's Fire is more 80's), I'm just wondering why Keith lost an L in his name for this episode?
It ("Marsteler"[sic]) was a quick typo that I made at 3AM and fixed immediately, but then it took like a full day to ripple the correction, but now Mandy is still seeing it spelled incorrectly, so... 🤷🏼♂️? --Keith
Eye of the tiger, to my ears, could also be a 70s rock hit. So, I went with the fire.
Absolutely agreed.
Gotta go with Man in Motion. More of an 80s sound. (And: Preach, Betty! Watch the movie already . . . even though I find it to be a snoozer.)

I had to agree, but I can't fault anyone who voted for Survivor!

And OMG you guys, watch the movie already! :D
I have finished the movie, and can now speak intelligently about how awful the male characters are towards women, if you need a refresher!

You may need to be on an episode to provide these tasty factoids for us. We can't afford a research staff! LOL @ "Naughty Naughty" reference!
Jon Cryer posted a link to the video for this song on Threads yesterday and now I really do have to watch the movie. But I don't *want* to.

This is kind of exactly what I said to Tara above. Maybe we should give it a re-watch together soon!?

Talk me into liking this movie! Maybe I didn't like it at the time because I was a teen and the characters were being grown-ups? Sell me on it, Tara!

As we may have said on the show, misogyny is very 80s.
I was never a fan of Eye of the Tiger so I had to go with St Elmo's Fire!
Hi, welcome aboard the 80s train! 🚂 ✨--K
