Oh man, I had a Green Machine and it was freaking awesome. I think it was the only time I was the kid with the cool toy. Usually it was my friend Jay Davenport down the street. Like, he had all the fucking Star Wars toys. God I hated him.
I've loved all of your impersonations up until this episode, Keith. It should have an "impersonations of simulated sex sounds" warning. 😂
I definitely know "Oh Sheila" but I didn't realize it was Store Brand Prince and not Top Shelf Prince. (I wouldn't have been old enough at the time to put together the Sheila E. connection though.) I'd never heard of Don't Disturb This Groove," which is somewhat surprising because I was very into early 90's R&B and this has a similar sound.
Despite the completely-ripping-off-Prince penalty, I've still gotta go Oh Sheila for the (completely stolen) 80's vibe.
In my defense, that was unscripted simulation of sex noises, and I had already forgotten that I had done it!
I think Diet Prince (Prince Zero?) is gonna win this one for the reasons you state. I am stunned at how many people don't remember this one, when so many of my friends know it so well. Your defense is at least that you were 7 or 8 when it became a hit, so that tracks that you would not know it.
I also have no memory of Don't Disturb the Groove. Maybe I shoved it out of my head because it is so goddamn boring. Jesus, what what a snooze fest.
Oh Sheila was everywhere back when it was out. I have a memory of it playing every time we went into the 7-11 after school my sophomore year. Seriously I think got played every damn day. Like when I hear that song I think of 7-11.
And the spin move in the video was something that me and my extremely white guy friends could do.
I love weird associations like this. I heard "The Warrior" in my friend Gina's basement seemingly every day while we worked on building a float for homecoming. That song puts me in a basement in the fall of '84. (Pretty sure Dr. Janet will remember this!) And we all probably have a bunch of little things like this. --Keith
I came into this episode not knowing any of these songs at all, but Keith's enthusiasm made me vote for "Don´t Disturb the Groove", eventhough the groove has indeed been disturbed!

I was the Green Machine-less kid with two Bespan Cloud Cars.
Damn, I KNEW Green Machine would have been awesome! I love this memory of yours though! Fucking Jay Davenport! --Keith

(Don't remember DDTG, I mean.)
Never heard either of these, but Oh Sheila is crazy in its 80aesthetic, even if it does seem a bit of a Prince copy, I prefer it here.
8-9 battles are meant to be this close, though, so I have no problem with either result. I brought both of these in and ranked them one apart, so...

Fair enough, I think my boys, The System, are going down on this one. 😬--Keith

And nothing is more 80s than copying Prince.

YES! Making all those tissue flowers for the float and tying them to chicken wire 😆
I KNEW you would remember! 🥰--K

The Groove is SOOOOO real, Alejandro! 😂--K
DDTG was at least not a ballad, it was about GETTING DOWN! 😂 --K
Ugh - I accidentally hit Don't Disturb This Groove when the phone slipped 🙄 - if it's off by 1 vote.... Oh Sheila wins
I gotchu, Dr J. will adjust if needed! --K
