Life in a Northern Town for the win, I hope. Still love that song. I never liked FYC. Stupid song. And I second my brother's FUCK JEFF BEZOS!!

Fine Young Cannibals, a band with a good track or two on an album and then a bunch of filler shit. I hate them so much. Even their good songs are ultimately forgettable. Disposable music. Blech.

I even have a great Drives Me Crazy experiential moment from 1989. At the dance club I spent every Friday night I was dancing and this song was on and a girl on the dance floor was looking at me and dancing closer. We ended up mashing together and dancing, grinding together during that song and then Erasure's Give a Little Respect, then Soft Cell's Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go. Danced way from each other and I never got her name. Despite my hatred of that band they are tied to an excellent teen memory for me.

But still, no contest for me, Dream Academy is so 80s and being a throwback to 60s sounds with some added layers of synth is very 80s. They just did it in little different way.

I was trying to only judge based on the songs, because FYC has said some super dickish things about the band's own fans, it's hard to like the people behind the band.

Congratulations on getting someone to dance with you! 😂 And I love all stories like that, where a song just stays with you forever for one specific moment!

Thanks! Keith

Of course I know Alfredo! He was my classmate at the Diego Maradona school for super talented fútbol players! 😃 I have to say that I love FYC, and this song in particular was the epytome of cool in local FM radio stations back in the late 80s. A "She drives me crazy" / "Tell me what's on your mind" matchup would be epic!

hahahaha thanks, Alejandro! Was "Life in a Northern Town" popular in Argentina? 🇦🇷

It wasn't super popular, but it was definitely on rotation on adult contemporary radio station. It's also the kind of song tv editors would use to musicalize inspirational clips!

What a specific description, but one that makes instant sense to another Emersonian! 😁 --Keith

I think Life is a better song, but She Drives is more 80s sounding so went with it for this round.

Most important info first: My offspring will be a very cute lemon (her idea...IDK why??). Perhaps she'll trick or treat at Cavity Sam and Nurse Ratched's place? (BTW, George was Cavity Sam like 20 years ago, but we were nowhere near clever enough to make it functional!)

Onto the songs: I actually WISH I had lots of experiential feels associated with Life in a Northern Town. It (unfortunately?) for me is kind of "that song used in a bunch of movie trailers/commercials." And as much as I don't really like any Fine Young Cannibals songs, they eat up the competition (see what I did there?) with the falsetto, the drums, the memories of glow sticks and roller skating.... Maybe it's my "Crush on You"? I (somewhat regretfully) give She Drives Me Crazy my vote.
