I don't care if everyone else thinks Milli Vanilli songs are shit. Regardless of who's singing them or what the singers look like, I still like the songs. They're catchy, singable, & dance-able, and I have great memories of playing their songs over and over again with my college roommates. (The same roommates I went to the concert -- I mean listening party -- with.) I just don't care if that means I have shitty taste in music. 😊
My goodness, how dull can a video be? 😅 Let's face it, this episode is all about Milli Vanilli! I think people enjoyed the concept, even though the artifice was quite evident. The two guys, the clothes, the dance moves, the synth, cannot exist outside the 80s. Regardless of what happens in the next round, I'm going for (the real 😂) Milli Vanilli on this one. Thanks for a very fun episode and enjoy the weekend, you guys!
The thing about the whole Milli Vanilli "controversy" is that people were pissed about the wrong thing. The music sucked no matter who the real singers were, and it's not like this was the first group to do this. Sugar Sugar in the 60s was credited to cartoon characters!
All these people mad about Milli Vanilli were paying good money to go watch New Kids On The Block or Spice Girls lip synch, and everyone knew they were.
People were mad because it revealed that they had shit taste in music. And it revealed what so many people have always known, the Grammy awards are a joke.
A toid I wish you had mentioned, one of the bands they beat for that Grammy was Indigo Girls. The fucking Indigo Girls! Even if they were not a fake band, a group of supposed music professionals listened to that shit and thought it was better than Indigo Girls! Insanity.
I vaguely remember the Nu Shooz song, but not the name of the band. Milli Vanilli grudgingly gets my vote, it's pretty damn 80s in both its sound and its example of one of those shit singing groups made up by some producers or music executives putting out fake music.
I didn't know that TOID! Wow! Definitely NOW that seems ridiculous. I don't think I knew Indigo Girls until '90 or '91, but it seems obvious who's more talented! --K
Mine was the Bridge tour 2-3 year before that. It was the very end of my time as a listener of mainstream pop music. I had just discovered college radio about that same time period.
Okay, please post a video of Keith doing the Milli Vanilli dance! The ridiculous dancing was actually the first thing I thought of when listening to the song.
In terms of voting...this one's tougher than I thought! At first I was going to go Milli Vanilli, hands-down. The music, the shoulder pads, the scandal....it's all very 80s. But then I remembered the Ah-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh and I started to change my mind. (It IS very Ross from Friends, good call Joe!) I need to listen again, but Nu Shooz's sounds of a Casio keyboard at an orgy may get my vote!
The Milli Vanilli Incident was very 80s, but lip syncing dancers don't make the song (music) more 80s -- going to have to go with Keith and Nu Shooz here, despite the lame video effort.

Enjoyment of music is personal, and I can see the catchiness of it. And hey, you were 18/19. So, fuck it--enjoy what you enjoy! 😘
I mean I like "Don't Disturb This Groove," so...

Haha, glad you enjoyed the show! I'm starting to come around on MV being more 80s than Nu Shooz, despite the insane synth on "I Can't Wait." 😬

Milli Vanilli was not Marsha's first concert. She attended a listening party/dance party.
I just told her this and she said with a smile, "yeah, OK, that's fair! So now my first concert is Billy Joel!" 😂
Thanks for making her first concert better! --K
Hey, Billy Joel was my second concert!
Marcia went to the "We Didn't Start the Fire"-era tour right around that same time.
Mine was the Bridge tour 2-3 year before that. It was the very end of my time as a listener of mainstream pop music. I had just discovered college radio about that same time period.
I saw Billy Joel on both The Bridge and Storm Front tours at the long-gone Richfield Coliseum.

No such video exists, but I will do my moves upon request at Scrapsgiving!
I-I-I-I can't wait to see you guys! 😂
Happy Thanksgiving!

Wish they could both lose. Despite my affection for hot guys, I am going with I Can't Wait. Just seems a little more 80's to me.
Great ending bit, guys. Makes me miss Quantum Leap even more. Loved that show.
Great vote, Meg!
And yeah, I'm not sure I can top the leaping ending! 😂
Hope you guys are doing OK. 🤗

Great choice, Chris! 😁 We probably don't have enough to get Nu Shooz over the top, but we will see!
Oh my god, that closing bit was awesome!
It's possible that I'm making these closing bits a bit too involved! 🤣 But I am glad you enjoyed my leaping into Joe to fix the Movies Region! --Keith
