I wonder what Josie had to say about the song... they ruined her faraway vacation, that's for sure. I agree with you guys: even though The Outfield is deeply rooted in my 80s memories, there's something hypnotic about "The Promise". And you know what they say, "when in the 80-est, do as Joe and Keith do"!

If Josie were real, I am pretty confident she would fucking despise this song, her boyfriend, and her friend. It occurs to me that the girl being sung to MUST already know Josie, because he never explains to the object of the song who Josie is. So there are decent odds that Girl X already knows her. Despicable! 😝

As much as I enjoy "Your Love," "The Promise" feels like a song that could go far in this tournament...but then again, I haven't looked ahead to see whom it might be matched against.

I would love to hear about Josie's revenge, those two douchebags deserve the worst! "The Promise" is definitely a sleeper...

"Your Love 2: Josie's Revenge" is an incredible idea for a song that you and I will have to write and record, since the lead singer of The Outfield passed away in recent years. Do you play any instruments? I had maybe 2 years of piano lessons... plus you've heard my incredible vocal range!--K

Your falsetto is amazing, Keith! That's all that counts. We can hire musicians to take care of the rest!

Oh there is very much a 12" of The Promise. It is called the Ollie North Mix for some reason. As far as I know there was no engineer/producer/mixer with that name, so I assume it is a reference to THAT Oliver North considering the year it came out.

FYI - there is an outfield in cricket. There is some old movie I saw sometime is the reason I know that. But I think their outfield is not a place where any of the players play, I think the outfield is outside the field of play. But I'm not sure.

I am checking with my cricket 🏏 guy for further explanation!

So did you consider "The Promise" Ollie Mix a good, danceable tune back in the club days?

Oh yeah, great track to dance to. Almost 7 minutes long compared to the single which is like 3 or 4.

Steve Perry-esque??? Steve Perry-esque??? Are you effing kidding me? NOT. EVEN. CLOSE.

So, this is the first time I have had my mind changed during the podcast. When I went into this, I thought, "Outfield, hands down." I mean, talk about ubiquitous. Experientially, very 80's. I've even heard this several times in the grocery store. I've always liked it. Not loved it, but solid like. HOWEVER, The Promise, a song I didn't even recall until you played it, is soooo good. And, yes, more 80's. Keith, you had it right, that song is positively hypnotic, soothing even. So, well done, guys! The Promise for the win!

Gotta go with The Promise -- very 80s alternative. Your Love sounds almost-70s to me. (I've been told that I'm tone deaf, so take that as you will.)
