This is a very fun episode! I'm going for the blondes on both matchups. I thought I'd go for Astley, but Stacey's sassiness got me: "My body's burning, so come on heed my desire"... Who could ever compete against the boldness of that demand? As much as I love of MV (or the idea of it), Taylor is a powerhouse and I played her song on the radio a lot in the late 80s. Two earworms for the semis! One thing is for sure: a diva will emerge victorious from this region!

I think you're right, there will at least be one woman in the regional final, if not two!

Taylor is too strong to deny--you're right! What kind of station were you working for back then? Was it in college before I met you in grad school, or were you working full time in radio before you came to the US?

I worked at a radio station that featured a wide range of songs and musical styles, from american top 40 to british bands like The Smiths and New Order. The owners of the station had contacts in the US that would ship them all the new music, so I was lucky enough to hear a lot of songs before they became popular. So, while I went to Charly or Soda Stereo's concerts, I would also listen to a lot of american top 40! Then I moved to Boston for a couple of years, and listened to a lot of grunge and discovered Taco Bell thanks to my dear friend Keith! But those stories will be part of the 90s-est, I guess!

We don’t sound like hicks because we aren’t from fucking West Virginia. The only Ohioans that sound like that are SE Ohio.

BAHAHAHA, thank you for sharing the hot steaming pile of jingle bell garbage that is Funky Funky Xmas with your listeners! 🤣 For your sake, I'm glad it didn't become an earworm. I've played lots of 90s jams to get it out of there, but for some reason the line about "You left the fire burning and I burnt my butt" hangs on like a bad PSA.

Anyways...Two of Hearts has something Madonna-like about it that is undeniably fun and infectious for me. And I don't WANT to give my vote to Milli Vanilli, but their scandal rocked the 80s as much as Girl You Know It's True rocked our bods.

The closer to the end we get, the tougher the choices get! Well-justified votes, both.

And yeah, I thought you might enjoy the drop of Funky Funky Xmas!🤣. (Unfortunately, data shows we lost 75% of our listeners moments after that segment.) Oh well. Worth it.

Oof Joe, you may want to Google "Fred Savage sexual assault" and rethink the statement about having respect for him.

Man, these are just four terrible songs. As much as I hate it, Rick Astley has to be the favorite in this bracket. Very 80s and also has culturally endured (for some goddamn reason). Taylor vs Misters Vanilli is just a coin flip. Crappy dance beats vs. a fake group, both are very 80s.

Yeah MV may be fake singers...but did they also have someone do the ACTING for them, or did they fake that, too? 😂

Wow, that is a really good question. Did they let those two guys voices be heard in that opening or did the real singers do that too?

Not a huge fan of any of these, and no strong memories of any, which makes it a harder decision than it should be. I'll vote for Stacey Q (Rick-rolling's post-80s popularity disqualifies it in my mind) and Taylor Dayne.

We match up again! I think we agree on Astley here , in terms of why our gut is telling us to not vote for him!

I know my wife is probably going MV for the same reasons! Their music is catchy as hell, and 80s production is off the charts, even if they can't "act"! 😂 --K

Ms. Q feels more 80s to me, but I get the urge to vote Rick!!
