I might regret it, but I'm going for Rad in the first match-up... the logic being that there's no way it could exist outside the 80s. The awesomess of Giorgio Moroder wins the second matchup for me, but I have to say, Mónica's vote goes to Peter Cetera!
That’s right—I nearly forgot the master, Moroder! Maybe Real Life has a chance at the upset? Time will tell. Sorry you have to live in a house divided between Berlin and Cetera. I hope your marriage can weather the storm! —K
Proud to say I have never seen either “Pretty in Pink” or “Rad.” I can’t stand Molly Ringwald. Something about her face just irritates the crap out of me. Always thought she was butt ugly.
I love Petcetera, but this is not one of my favorites of his. Although, after listening to it again, it is a really sweet song…if you’re 16. Still, no way it beats Berlin.
Yes, Bryan and I watched Top Gun together. No, we were not role playing. And, no, you don’t want to know what we were doing. Or rather, what I was doing. Lmao
The votes only get tougher as we get deeper in the tourney! But I really struggled choosing between OMD and Real Life! Very close so far in the voting!
This is really hard. OMD, seminal 80s (and beyond) band. One of my all-time favorites, I still go see them in concert and buy their new records (which are fantastic and hold up against their best 80s output). This song is classic, even though it is far from my favorite OMD song.
Send Me An Angel, while I don't connect it to the movie at all, was huge for me. I'm pretty sure this song played from the very first time I went to a teen club in, I think, 1985. So, so 80s. Dripping 80s. One-hit (-ish) wonder 80s, and I think the one hit wonders were the best in the 80s.
I think I'm going Cetera in the 2nd matchup. I mean, over the top melodramatic ballads were very 80s. Berlin's song is obviously great, but it's not even very representative of a Berlin song, not really sounding like anything else they did.
I think we are past the point in the tourney now where I don't see a path forward for certain songs. Any one of these can win and I respect the vote. But it sure makes the decisions tough. OMD vs. Real Life, while Joe knew who I was voting for, I did not. I almost opened my mouth and said OMD, but something about that Real Life song got me to vote against my favorite song of the bracket.
I love how Keith still can't get the real year(s) of Send Me An Angel right. 1986 still has nothing to do with that song, it came out in 1983 and then they redid it as Send Me An Angel '89 in, wild guess, 1989.
Hahahahaha so right! I meant to say that RAD came out in 1986, not 1983 like I thought, but yes, I also failed to say “Send Me an Angel 89” came out in 1989! Hahahaha I am laughing so hard because I DO continue to screw this up!
Love this strong endorsement of “Send Me an Angel”! And I think we are also finished with Petcetera! I surprisingly know all the artists you mentioned for the current ballad examples, so OK, ballads are alive and well. Thanks for the input, Dr. J! —K

We'll make it through! We already survived the Astley / Stacey Q matchup 😂
😂 😂 I believe in your love!

You're not missing much with "Rad," other than just the greatest BMX-based action romance ever made. YOUR LOSS! 😁
"Pretty in Pink" you can skip and watch "Some Kind of Wonderful," where Hughes fixes his script issues and uses more attractive actors! 😂
I can feel Joe's cringe from across the country! Well done! 👏 👏 😂 🤣
Two great songs but have to go with OMD in the first matchup, Keith's pity-vote notwithstanding. And Berlin in the second matchup -- not even close.

Well, you can't all be perfect like me.
We can TRY, damn it!
