OF course I'm sure Joe knows I'm all in on Crowded House. Information Society is just weak sauce. They tried so hard to sound like something that they ended up sounding like nothing. Crowded House is one of the great bands of the late 80s (after Neil Finn was in one of the great bands of the early 80s in Split Enz) and 90s. (1991's Woodface album may just be a perfect record)
The two songs in the early lead here will make people think that the "80s sound" is just any song that sounds like crap and has too many samples.
I don't now about it being more 80s, but Dance Hall Days is at the very least the better of Wang Chung's hits.
Neil Finn's brother Tim joined as a full member of the band for this album (and only this one, he did not stay in the band). They had been in Split Enz together. They wrote most of the songs together and mostly harmonize on lead vocals. Which is one reason why I think it's so good. Tim's lead vocal on All I Ask is a high point for me, I just adore that song.
Listening to that song now. I gotta say, as good as it is, it's nothing like "Something So Strong" or "Don't Dream It's Over." Which is great that they can evolve, I just could not have picked the band of these songs if listening without knowing. Much more stripped-down, classic sound. Thanks for recommending it!
I love "What's on your mind" as much as I love the idea of a bunch of kids from Minnesota pretending to be British! (Mónica is voting for Crowded House, though!) Actually, IS had another song that was pretty popular in Argentina, called "Repetition". As for the first matchup, it's tough, but I have more memories of "Everybody have fun tonight", so I'll wung chung this vote.
Hey Deni, they were on heavy rotation on the radio, but I don´t think they ever played live here. They played in "Rock in Rio" which is a huge festival in Brazil.
hahaha so many things to love about this comment, but yes, it is SO easy to forget these guys are not British! It also seems like Mónica lives to cancel out your votes! 😂 --Keith

I just put Woodface on today's listening list, was not familiar with it! --K
You should love it, especially if a song like Don't Dream It's Over is your favorite Crowded House.
Really enjoyed "She Goes On" also!
Fun hidden track at the end! 😂
Listened to probably the first half today on a run. So far, it's really good!

No, it's not like too much of their other stuff. All I Ask is pretty much a jazz song.

Was Information Society as huge in Argentina as they were in Brazil? Brazil just loved them, they played huge stadium show there if I recall.

I had "Fire in the Twilight" on my side A list! Sounds like you made two informed decisions! Go, Dr. J!
