Well that was maybe the funniest episode yet. I must seek out this Rad movie, because it sounds wonderfully awful. And that montage track that you played might be the greatest thing I've ever heard. It's like a parody of a montage song.
Joe's right, I know nothing of the origin of Iko Iko, I am definitely not a fan of that track. Just ick.
But Send Me an Angel? Oh yeah, like Keith that song is a part of me, though for very different reasons. It was a regular track at the first teen dance club I started going to, I've been in love with that song for a very long time. What I've found interesting about the popularity or not of that song is that while it didn't chart very high nationally it was a really popular song in different regions of the country. That was still a thing when we were young, local radio wasn't owned by big corporations so there might be songs out there that were a big hit in Boston but nobody knew about it in Milwaukee. When I moved to Illinois before my senior year of high school I discovered that nobody up in that Chicago suburb didn't know Send Me an Angel at all. It finally got more known with the '89 release.
I love this story! And yes, I remember when regional hits were a thing, too! In Cleveland, we had Michael Stanley Band (rock) and Beau Coup (R&B/pop) that nobody had ever heard of.
And of course I love "Rad" and "Thunder in Your Heart" and most of all "Send Me an Angel" and the oh-so-bad goodness of the prom scene:

But it's also just a great song, in my opinion, even without the "Rad" connection! And SO 80s!!
Thanks, Deni!

Speaking of "great" bad movies of the 80s, you would have to include "Gotcha!"

starring Anthony Edwards, who only becomes famous in ER after he loses his hair.
I adore Gotcha! I think I've seen that like 20 times.
And, Iko Iko is gonna get crushed.
I thought it might get smashed 0-100, but somebody voted for it! Oingo Boingo's Side A defeat record is safe for now! --K
I accept your apology graciously. lol
You are a kind and benevolent deity. 🙏--K
I don't think I've heard it before, but the 80ness of "Send me an Angel" gets my vote. Looking forward to the "Top Gun" face off!
Excellent choice! Do you know "Iko Iko"?
I may have heard it in Rain Man!
