This has been a very fun episode! Thanks Deni for your perspective and anecdotes. Let me contribute with my top 5, based on what songs played the most on argentine radio stations:

Side A: 5- Tainted Love 4- Love will tear us apart 3- Once in a lifetime 2- Just can´t get enough 1- Sunday bloody sunday (U2 was on heavy rotation throughtout the 80s)

Side B: (this is gonna be a top ten, actually) -10 Under the milky way 9- Tomorrow people 8 - Lips like sugar 7- Girlfriend in a coma 6- Beds are burning 5- Better be home soon 4- More than this 3- Luka 2- Strangelove 1- What I am (Eddie Brickell was a sensation)

Thank you guys for the episode. And Deni, you actually came across as a really cool guy!

Finally! Music I can stand! I really, really enjoyed this episode. Loved hearing from Dr. Deni, PhD in musicology.

His amount of knowledge is really cool and enviable.

Can we all agree that the 80s had the best damn music ever? Thanks Deni for putting this together. I have been listening all weekend, and in the process rediscovering music that I had not heard in years, if not decades. Absolutely fantastic!! I actually still need to go back and finish the podcast episode, but I feel like I need to get through the playlists first!

Thanks for spending your time with us, John! Tune in tomorrow for a few rare WKSR tapes making an appearance in the season finale!

And yeah, I think most listeners will agree there was some really great stuff going on in the 80s! Great stuff in all decades, but the music of the growing up years always holds a special place for every generation!

Well that was just a lot of fun, and I don't think I sounded like too much of a dope.

One thing I wish I had mentioned is The Replacements' song Left of the Dial. In addition to being the kind of quintessential college radio band, they even had a song that is an homage to college radio. College stations all have low numbers in the frequency, so they are always on the far left of the dial.

The Replacements were also known for their refusal to make music videos, so when they caved in to record label pressure they made videos that were just a stereo playing the song.

Cool song! The "video" is a giant middle finger to videos! 😂
