First, REO Speedwagon is not great but they had a few nice ballads. No reason to be so mean. Plus, I can’t vote for Sheena because our dad once commented that she was hot and it grossed me out, so ick. Also, she really only had a couple decent songs, the James Bond theme and the duet with Prince. Finally, “Rock of Ages” the movie did suck, but I’ve seen it on our local community theater stage and it was great!

The Speedwagon was big enough to make our list for sure. And I admitted to liking the song, AND I voted for them. But their video and their style? YIKES!!!

Sheena was not my number one 80s star, that was definitely Ms. Hoffs, of the Bangles. I was not attracted to Madonna, I actually thought Sheena was prettier and seemed...more "normal," I guess?

Anyway, whoa, I had no idea "Rock of Ages" was also a play!?

Ffs, you men and The Hoffs. lol. It defies logic. Plus, ROA was a play first, as is the case with many movies.

My favorite part of this is that REO's video is so bad that even Keith - the Rad-loving man - found it too horrible to watch even ironically. I could actually hear in your voices you questioning your life choices.

Dude, so my friend Jenny came by for dinner tonight. She has earlier recorded a bit for the show about Duran Duran, I think. She listens to the show. So tonight after dinner, she starts in with, "Can we watch that terrible Foreigner video together?" and even though I didn't want to I watch it again, I did. She agrees it's boring and seemingly detached from the lyrics. Then she says, "In the episode I was just listening to, you and Joe say, wait for Monday, there's something WORSE! Can we watch THAT video?" So I did watch REO again, and Jenny, Marcia, and I just absolutely are all in disbelief at the look of this band, at how the "story" is completely nothing like the song, the 3 Faces East moment, etc. So I DID do it again, but I hope to be done permanently with it now! 😂

I guess I'm just enough older than you guys to remember REO Speedwagon's significance to 1980 - Hi Fidelity was everywhere. REO Speedwagon was 1980. That wasn't the end of their hits, but it was their only year of omnipresence. (I agree with Keith -- they have "the stink of the '70s on them.")

They essentially disappeared in the flood of other 80s bands bringing in new sounds. Including Sheena Easton. Her sound was much more "of the '80s" than REO Speedwagon's.

I don't think either of these acts are the most '80s in the long run, but I'm going with Easton here.

I desperately wanted to vote Easton, but this one song is SO big in my experience, that I ended up on REO.

It's not that you're older, it's that I didn't have a radio! 😂

Just when you thought things couldn´t get worse, here comes a clip from the movie "Rock of Ages": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rm5MDenG5QY

If you haven´t seen the movie, I strongly recommend you not to!

We're going for Sheena on this one!

I just finished watching this clip, and I am not sure my life will ever be the same!

First, allow me to say, two men singing this song to one another: absolutely not a problem, and I am sure you agree with me on that.

I go out of my way to mention this obvious thing, because when I say how terrible this scene is, I want to make it very clear that it's because of terrible acting, atrocious singing, and a beyond ridiculous wig. Not for one single moment do I believe these two actors are in love. It's a tale as old as acting, this lack of chemistry. I disagree with the changing of the notes of the song, but I suspect nobody else could find Cronin's vocal range? But it makes it sound awful. And the choreography in this scene feels like a bad improvisation that they kept.

Curse you, Alejandro, for bringing this to me, and ensuring that I will now have to watch the entire film!

It's atrocious! I guess they went for a parody, but the result is appalling, and one of the highlights of a really terrible movie.

As for the original video clip, the band's hairdos are spectacular!

Considering the two actors in that clip it ages even worse than normal.

Now THAT is an excellent point! We also watched THIS video tonight(thanks for nothing, Alejandro! 😩) And Marcia found it spectacular in how terrible it was, I think Jenny was horrified by how awful it is, and I was busy realizing how right you are about something/two people aging SO exceptionally poorly. Not quite Cosby/OJ, but it's kinda in the ballpark! 😂

Well, Brand is definitely in the Cosby neighborhood.

Have you seen the trailer for the new Naked Gun re-boot with Liam Neeson? There is a funny OJ bit.

If that's supposed to be a parody, then I guess my opinion changes from "terrible and non-authentic" to "homophobic and not funny"? 😂
