The Cyndi Lauper farewell tour is just damn amazing. I saw it last year on her 1st Chicago stop (she comes back to a suburban amphitheatre in August) and spent way too much money for a great seat but it was worth every penny. Just a fantastic spectacle, great band, and she sounded wonderful.

I can't believe you guys didn't know Empty Garden. It is Elton's tribute to John Lennon.

I don't have a harsh of feelings about his 80s me music as you guys (I love this song and Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues in particular) but of course I love his 70s output more. Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters is to me the perfect Elton song.

Dude. I was paying SO little attention to Elton John in the 80s.

I love his 70s stuff. Don't Go Breaking My Heart has a huge place in my early childhood and I love the 70s stuff I came to later. I don't think his 80s stuff is garbage, but I don't think it's great.

Never heard Empty Garden, but I will give it a listen now that you mention the Lennon connection.

I also like "Blues" (I think I say this in the episode ) and this song is fine. I feel like there are some serviceable tunes but also some big stinkers in his 80s output . BUT I also feel like he just wasn't part of MY real 80s fandom. I can see any other person having a different experience! His legend status is not in question though.

¡Dios mío, el video de Elton John es un exceso de glamour ochentoso! Cannes, beautiful dancers in spandex, body painting, Sir Elton getting in and out of the frame... It's flamboyant and spectacular 🤩

Of course we're going with Cyndi (a final regional matchup against Madonna would be awesome) but Elton's video surely put up a fight!

I just remembered this! Cyndi got caught in a strike of airport workers in Buenos Aires about 15 years ago, and this happened (please notice the pre-smartphone era digital cameras-: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmfG5KFi51c
