“It puts the lyrics in the basket.” Lmfao

Keith, you really need to watch Jesus Christ Superstar. It’s an incredible play/movie. Watch either the movie circa 1970 with Ian Gillan (lead singer of Deep Purple) as Jesus or the staged version from a few years ago with John Legend as Jesus. Both really great. I got to be in it once. I was in the chorus and helped with makeup and costumes. One of my favorite theatre experiences ever. My early-30’s body was constantly getting out-danced by the teenagers in the cast, but I held my own with the frantic choreography.

Trust me. You should watch it. It’s not what you think it is.

Hi! There will be a new version starring Cynthia Erivo this year, I think at the Hollywood Bowl.

Quick note here: Ian Gillan sang the role in the original concept album, but he did not play the role in the 1973 movie. That was Ted Neeley. Ian, as far as I know, never acted the role on stage or film at any time, just recorded the role as a singer.

The part of Judas (best role in the show) on the original concept album was sung by Murray Head, who would go on to have a hit with One Night in Bangkok from the concept album for Chess. (And in a 'toid I learned only a couple of years ago, he is the older brother of Anthony Head, who plays Rupert on Ted Lasso)

Keith, as a fellow hardcore atheist like you, I highly recommend JCS. It is the only good thing that Andrew Lloyd Weber ever did.

And I highly, highly, highly recommend the 1994 recording called Jesus Christ Superstar: A Resurrection made by a group of (mostly) Atlanta-based indie bands. It stars the Indigo Girls' Amy Ray as Jesus and Emily Saliers as Mary Magdalene.

Anthony Head? Anthony Stewart Head? Rupert Giles on Buffy the Vampire Skater. Cool

Was his character's name in Buffy also Rupert? (I knew he was in that show but I never watched it)

I always think of him in the Taster's Choice coffee commercials in the early 90s.

I think everyone who likes the album has a different version they imprinted on. My mom got me a copy of the 20th Anniversary London recording for my birthday when I was in college and all the other versions just sound off to me.

While hearing to this episode I rememberd that I saw Bon Jovi live in Buenos Aires a long, long time ago! The radio station that I worked for sent me as a correspondent. The thing is, I have no recollection of the show whatsoever! Also, Bon Jovi was scheduled to play in Córdoba about 10 years ago, but the show was cancelled due to "a medical condition" of one member of the band. Mónica had purchased the tickets and got really dissappointed, but she's still voting for them on this one - so am I-.

A friend of mine, who is a terrific English as a second language teacher, uses quite a bit of Air Supply for his classes with adults, with outstanding results!

Can´t wait to hear the next show for another beautiful ballad, the kind that Joe enjoys so much 😂 Actually, we're going on a short winter vacation next week and I'll try to disconnect as much as possible, so I think I'll listen to that episode a few days later.

Until then, have a great weekend!

I really, really want to like Jon Bon Jovi's music. He's a total mensch. Very generous charity work, devoted husband and father, and his music and videos were always seemingly absent all of the misogyny and objectification so prevalent with other bands in his genre. (I think, I'm not well versed on his entire discography).

But I just don't like it. There is a built-in bias because all the terrible people in my high schools were always big Bon Jovi fans. And it's not my vibe. When I was in high school I wanted him to die - probably as a stand in for all the kids in high school I wished dead. But I feel bad about those ill feelings toward such a good guy.

Air Supply on the other hand - they are an abomination and I can't believe they are still doing it. Who the hell still goes to a fucking Air Supply concert?

And yes, they were very much our parents' music. And not the cool parents, the lame parents like my mother. She declared Air Supply her favorite band and their greatest hits was the only CD she had in her car after car CD players became a thing. The. Only. One.
