I agree with Joe, everyone should check out Staying Alive. It is an absolute train wreck of a movie that you can't take your eyes off of. It is astounding that there was a group of people in a room that thought that shit up and were like, "this is gonna be great!" It may be Jaws: The Revenge level of absurdity.
Oh hell yeah I skated. The skating rink was like the training ground for the dance clubs. I don't think I went anytime after 7th grade, there was a hard cutoff when you didn't go to the rink anymore.
I definitely stopped skating the day our rink was carried to Pennsylvania in an F5 tornado...but I had also kind of trailed off on going much by that point.
What's the song or songs you most associated with the roller rink?
Man, on paper Richard Marx is a formidable opponent. With all the writing work he did (which I knew nothing about) there is a lot more to him than I thought. But still, no. His songs and the songs he wrote for others are all so boring and forgettable. They are not even interesting enough to hate.
This is the thing, I can't hate these songs after hearing them so many times as the backdrop of the end of high school, but I also don't love them either. His songs are like those classmates you weren't close to but also didn't dislike. They were THERE.
It was surprising to see the accolades he has accumulated. And Lionel Richie is not an all-time favorite, but he's far more iconic than Marx in this matchup.
Starlight was in North Benton. Aunt Ang took us. I have no idea why. I hated it.
Ahhh North Benton. What did you hate? The skating itself? The music? Couples skate? Having to go with your aunt and little brother?

I am embarrassed to say I haven't seen it. I've really only seen part of "Saturday Night Fever," but I got the idea.
Now I have to check it out!! Need to decide if it belongs in The 80s-est Movie Edition!

So I think we mostly agree on this one!
