If you have never seen the movie "Blinded By The Light" you should really check it out. Based on a memoir, it is the story of a British of Pakistani origin teen (a 1971 kid, so around our age) who discovers the music of The Boss in the mid-80s and it changes his life. Great movie showing how this Pakistani-British working class kid connects to the music or white working class Jersey.

Dancing In The Dark is the first Bruce song he listens to in the movie and you see him connect to the lyrics. It's just super cool. So much cooler than just some dull biopic.

As a Springsteen fan, I was excited to see this movie when it came out, and it didn't disappoint! Thanks, Deni!

The Arthur Baker dance mix of Dancing In The Dark can be heard here:

Baker is a legend in the dance mix world. He has been working with New Order from their very early days and co-wrote several of their songs, including Confusion and Thieves Like Us. I believe he did a dance mix of Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Wanna Have Fun as well. He is a widely sought out producer and mixer.

Not really sure what dance clubs this would have played in, surely not the New Wave clubs I went to.

Finally sat down and listened to it. Since I love the original, it's no huge surprise that I don't mind this remix. But it seems unnecessary, really. Doesn't make it THAT much more danceable, you know? Like it doesn't transform it into a dance club hit, but what do I know, it sold like crazy!

I will say that the synth and drum machine and extra reverb DOES make it sound MORE 80s! Thanks for sharing this, Deni! --K

I wish this wasn't the first pairing! I wasn't a huge fan of Springsteen in the 80s; I came to really appreciate his music years later. Big fan now. I think the Beastie Boys were underrated when they first appeared, and yet they had some really fun and memorable songs in the 80s. But looking back, I think that Springsteen was a bigger part of the 80s than the BB, so the Boss got my vote.

I absolutely love Beastie Boys, but it's not close for me, in terms of who was bigger in the 80s. Bruce all the way!
