Synchronicity was a record given to me by a girl I was dating, maybe the only one I ever dated who has shoulder pads (in subsequent years I went more for girls who looked like Siouxsie Sioux). Of course, that was a 23-year-old I was with when I was 16 and for some reason 80s parents were ok with that. So anything off that album makes me think of inappropriate relationships and bad parenting.

I can never hear Roxanne without thinking of Eddie Murphy singing it in his first scene in 48 Hours.

This is an incredible personal-life share, thanks, Deni! 😂 And of course, yeah man, 48 Hours! What a throwback flick!

Did you want to reveal who you went with for this one? Was it close? I can't tell if the bad parenting and inappropriate relationships made you vote for or against The Police? 👮‍♂️ (Who maybe should have been called to investigate your 23-year-old girlfriend?)

Oh, The Police. Didn't even have to think about it.

I got no complaints about the 23-year-old girlfriend situation. I *ahem* learned a lot.

I think I just discovered a link between seasons 1 and 3... could Sting be the one watching Rockwell? 🤔Anyways, "Every breath..." is legendary and I'd happily vote for it should it make to the next round, but my vote goes for Toto on this one, based on: -its cheesesisosity, -the crazy amount of covers it spawned, -the fact that my fellow countryman DeBurgh covered it (he might sue us all if we don´t vote for this song), -it's as 80s as Joan Collins' shoulder pads-and because I just love the idea of Toto being a guy rather than a band.

I love this! First off, I love your humor (DeBurgh 😂), and secondly, Toto could maybe WIN this thing!! And Toto, whether a single man, or a whole band of cultural-appropriating studio musicians, will NOT BE DENIED!

I went Africa because: 1. It was my favorite song when I was, like 4 or 5. Probably my first favorite song ever (Martika's Toy Soldiers of course coming later). 2. Is this the BEST song? The most legendary? No, but there's clearly SOMEthing about it, right? Like it has no business being a song that so many think so fondly of, yet here it is. And for that, I gotta give it to Toto.

And, AND to say nothing of the litany of covers! I laughed my ass off at both of your reactions to them. This is not my favorite cover, but obviously one I'd know about. I just appreciate the hidden reference to Toto being in Kansas: https://youtu.be/ynrLWIlNBIc?si=EVFm9xIeJiE75hXE

There is something about it, undeniably! Toto deserves something, damnit!

And of course Tori covered those two songs together! Perfection! I didn't see her version ever formally recorded, so that makes me think that if you included live covers, there must be hundreds!

Can Toto pull this off? 🤔

Thanks for sharing! --KGM

Wow another tough one. In the end, I think I have to agree with you guys and go with the Police. That song, creepy as it is, is such a dominant part of that era. I remember hearing it all the time. Incidentally, Sting had a great solo hit in 1985 called "Russians" on "The Dream of the Blue Turtles". This, I believe is his most 80sest work - it beautifully captured the fear of mutual nuclear annihilation during the cold war. What is more 80s than that?

From a Toto perspective, Africa is definitely up there, but probably not their best song. I didn't know there were so many covers of it!

These legends match-ups are going to be hard!

It's very close for me. A different night or a different Toto song, and I might swing back the other way. But it HAD to be "Africa," didn't it?

I remember the Sting track you're talking about! Good stuff.

Legends matchups are not for the faint of HEART(too soon?). Do not vote in legends matchups if you are allergic to legends matchups! Tell a doctor if a legend matchup takes you more than three hours to decide!
