It's a rock versus pop preference question. I love Journey but that song does have a lingering late 70s rock undertone, whereas Eurythmics embody that iconic 80s production. Glee arguably gave that song and Journey a major boost. Annie and Dave -
Here we go... Don't Stop Believin' is the most important rock anthem EVER RECORDED!!! I love the Eurythmics, and Here Comes the Rain Again is a truly excellent song, but it pales in comparison. Steve Perry is hands down one of the best vocalists in the Legends bracket. In addition to the stellar vocals, Neil Schon plays excellent guitar and Jonathan Cain plays outstanding keyboards to support the fantastic song writing. Journey was the total package!
You speak nothing but the truth. Man, I love Eurythmics! But this one song is so incredibly legendary. It's like I think Annie and Dave sound more what the 80s became, (which I adore), and Journey, while having an of-the-era rock sound, ended up with a much more undeniably popular song.
But I think Journey was still clinging to a 70s sound. I don't think pop radio really even became the 80s until Culture Club and The Eurythmics broke in 82/83. So I have to go Eurythmics all the way.
That's what gave me pause is the production and the sound. And which is more 80s? And which is more legendary on top of that makes it all so complicated! Journey is tough to deny here for me, but I goddamned respect Eurythmics as a vote here!
That's the thing. The Eurythmics certainly belong to the 80s. However, Don't Stop Believin' was born in the 80s, then transcended it to become one of the most popular songs ever. I mean you still hear it on regular rotation on nearly every radio station in the area. Truly legendary!
Still hard to believe that it was not more popular at the time...
It's been great to get a new episode today and listen to it on my way to work! And the cherry on top is the video of David H singing in Berlin 🤪That glittering jacket surely is spectacular! Joe, Darren Criss didn´t sing "Don´t stop believing" in regionals, since he was a member of "The Warblers" an all boys a cappella group that was the nemesis of "New Directions", our heroes of the show. I guess you'll have to watch all Glee seasons back to back, just to make up for this severe error.
I hate to vote for Journey on this one, since Annie Lennox is one of the most beautiful women to ever grace our lives with her presence, but "Don´t stop believing" is a more legendary song.
I didn't know enough about Glee to know who Darren Criss is. God damn you, Joe, for messing up our show again!!
I agree with you, it's painful to vote against Annie for any reason, but this one just looks like it's Journey to me. It is weird to see how a song that didn't come very close to being a #1 can become so popular. Why didn't it hit #1 if people like it so much? I don't get it! 😆

I do love me some Journey, not even ironically.

Maybe people back in the 80s were more rigorous than us and didn´t tolerate the lack of accuracy when it came to Detroit's geography!
hahahaha An intentional record sales snub based upon geographical snobbery? Sounds like you've cracked the case, Detective Saya !🕵️♂️
